Leitura interessante!

«The Sun's Peter Kiefer reports a late-afternoon bombshell: Madison Square Garden officials will move forward with a renovation of the arena instead of going along with the Penn Station/Moynihan Station redevelopment plan, which called for a new Garden to be constructed on the western end of the Farley Post Office building on Eighth Avenue. An MSG spokesman said:
Madison Square Garden has decided to move forward with our renovation previously announced in 2004. After exploring several alternatives, it has become clear that the only viable option is a renovation. Details will be available in the coming days. Madison Square Garden supports West Side redevelopment and applauds Senator Schumer's involvement(...)» in CURBED- 27.03.08

Hoje conheci Laura Lopes.
Bem haja!

«Street Trees Are No Longer an Optional Accessory

I think that I shall never see a zoning text amendment lovely as a tree. But the new Section 26-41 of the Zoning Resolution, which was approved on Monday by the City Planning Commission, no doubt comes close for fans of a green city. It requires the planting of street trees for new developments, as well as major enlargements and certain conversions of existing buildings. One tree is required for every 25 feet of street frontage.

Amanda M. Burden, the commission chairwoman, said the requirement “will generate an estimated 10,000 street trees a year” toward the goal of one million new trees citywide over the coming decade(...)»in

A "garra" de Obama!

« (...)Or, at this moment, in this election, we can come together and say, "Not this time." This time we want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children and white children and Asian children and Hispanic children and Native American children.

This time we want to reject the cynicism that tells us that these kids can't learn; that those kids who don't look like us are somebody else's problem. The children of America are not those kids, they are our kids, and we will not let them fall behind in a 21st Century economy. Not this time.

This time we want to talk about how the lines in the emergency room are filled with whites and blacks and Hispanics who do not have health care, who don't have the power on their own to overcome the special interests in Washington, but who can take them on if we do it together.

This time we want to talk about the shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life.

This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn't look like you might take your job; it's that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit.

This time we want to talk about the men and women of every color and creed who serve together, and fight together, and bleed together under the same proud flag.(...)» transcrição parcial do Discurso de Barack Obama, em 18.03.08

«Developer Sheldon Solow received a key vote from a City Council subcommittee this morning, clearing the path, seven years after he agreed to buy the land, for him to build a $4 billion set of towers just south of the United Nations.
Mr. Solow’s
plan, modified some in an agreement with local Councilman Daniel Garodnick, will bring seven towers to the 9.2-acre former Con Edison site, a site that is perhaps Manhattan’s largest single privately owned tract of undeveloped land (...)» in The New York Observer, em 12.03.08
